It’s odd to think that 2014 has been over for two months. It seems like it was gone in the blink of an eye. One of the surprises in early 2014, for me, was my induction into the EMC Elect program. Being recognized as a community influence led to my recommitment to becoming active in the community. I think I did a fairly decent job, especially in the first half of the year. Here we are in 2015 and I’ve been included in the EMC Elect 2015 class as well!
The EMC Elect Program was created to recognized support of the EMC technical community. From involvement in events, participation in beta programs, and access to technical resources EMC has been ever active with the Elect community. I am honored to have been named a member of the EMC Elect program for the second year in a row. This year the program has 101 people, which is just over 25% growth compared to the previous year. The full list of names can be found here.
This year I was a member of then EMC Elect selection process. Every person who was nominated was judged very rigorously by the panel. The processes started with one judge reviewing a candidate based on how active they were on micro blogging sites, their own personal blog, the ECN community, and at live events. Each category was assigned an individual score which was totaled in the end. Judging was based on quality of content with particular focus on the value it brings to the community as a whole. This was not an easy process, looking at an entire person social media presence for 2014 was a daunting but fun task. I really enjoyed seeing the old twitter conversations and seeing the blog posts of EMC World – it was like watching a highlight reel of the past year. After the first judge was done scoring, a second judge came in for a second review. The second judge was equally reviews the candidate independently of the first judge, following the same steps of evaluations. Each judge reviewed around 30 candidates between the first and second round. From here scores were tallied and adjusted. EMC employees were given a penalty to ensure their effort well beyond the normal scope of their job, to show they have true passion for the community. A more detailed review of the selection process was written by fellow EMC Elect Dave Henry and can be found here.
I’m looking forward to continued engagement with the EMC team, my fellow Elect, and the community and large.
