Last week I moderated a panel at the annual Cincinnati VMware User Group conference with some great panelists. As a moderator, I had a pretty simple job: enable the panel to educate and entertain the audience.  Ask some questions, engage the audience, and don’t let anyone ramble on. Pretty straight forward, but when I got off stage one of the staff members commented that it was hard to find IT people who are decent at speaking to a large audience. I dismissed his comment at the time,  but it got me thinking about being a high school freshman. That was the first year I had to write and give an actual presentation to the class. It’s odd to think that 2014 has been over for two months.  It seems like it was gone in the blink of an eye.  One of the surprises in early 2014, for me, was my induction into the EMC Elect program.  Being recognized as a community influence led to my recommitment to becoming active in the community.  I think I did a fairly decent job, especially in the first half of the year.  Here we are in 2015 and I’ve been included in the EMC Elect 2015 class as well!   The EMC Elect Program was created to recognized support of the EMC technical community. My passion, like many of you, has always been technology. It all started when my dad bought me my commodore VIC-20 when I was just 5 or 6 years old. I remember the using the external storage at the time, a Datasette. It was the first, of many, technological advances I’d see with magnetic tape and data storage in general. I guess I’ve come full circle now working in the world of Enterprise Storage and Backup for the past 15 years. We’ve seen a huge amount of change and advancement. From DASD to FICON to FAST the landscape is an ever involving one. Passion. It’s what drives us to explore new things, rise to challenges, and advance and support our environments.
